How to Remove Old Golf Grip Tape

The hardest part of regripping your golf clubs is without a doubt removing the old grip tape. The old tape can stick to the club, fall apart, not come off cleanly, or is just impossible to even remove. Removing the old tape is the most time consuming part of regripping your golf clubs. These tricks will save you so much time!

#1 Use Heat Gun or Hair Dryer

After cutting off the old golf grip, apply heat use a heat gun or hair dryer to apply heat to the tape. Apply heat to all areas of the tape. Heat it up for 15-20 seconds. The old grip tape should now peel off easy (Be careful as the shaft may be hot).

#2 Use Grip Tape Remover (Steel Shafts Only)

After cutting off the old golf grip, put the butt end of the golf shaft into the ground. Using the grip tape remover, push in and down on the tape. Rotate the club and repeat until all tap is removed. After all tape is removed, apply solvent to the previously taped area to remove the excess goo. #3 Apply Heat to the Golf Grip

The goal for this trick is to remove the grip and old grip tape at the same time. Before cutting off the golf grip, apply heat to the golf grip using a heat gun or hair dryer. Heat up the entire grip for 20-30 seconds. Cut the grip off using a hook blade. If possible, peel the grip and the grip tape off at the same time. If the tape does not come off with the grip, peel the tape off. The tape should still be warm, so you shouldn't have to apply heat again.
